Genetic engineering

The goal of the Genetic Engeneering and Clonining sub-project is to identify some genomic regions in pig, as already shown in mouse and human genome, which are particulary suitable for transgenic integration without any negative effects and to ensure high expression level [...]

Comparative physiology and immunology

The aim of this sub-project is to characterize through ex vivo and in vivo studies, the functional response of kidney from control and engineered pigs to the human microenvironment, in particular vasoactive hormones and those for the regulation of electrolyte  and calcium phosphate metabolism  [...]

Regenerative medicine

The main result expected from this sub-project is the generation of  iPS (induced pluripotent cells) lines from pig that can be then used in regenerative models to be differentiated through specific protocols towards the haematopoietic and cardiomyocyte line and  hematopoietic stem cells. [...]

Biosafety

Biosafety measures are designed to keep disease away from groups of animals or to limit the spread of a disease in an animal population. The goal of this sub-project is to find new strategies and to make animal resistant to viral infection, to strenghthen the immune response and in order to identify new inhibitors able to avoid the diffusion of porcine retrovirus in humans.
